A reminder of summer

How lovely, now the nights are drawing in, to be reminded of summer with these glorious images from our August open day by planthopper recorder Tricia Taylor (planthopper image courtesy Joe Botting).  They show Colin Lucas with his sweepnet, suction device and pooter combing our Fromus meadows for planthoppers.  Tricia and Colin found 13 species of mostly common hoppers and their full report can be found on the species lists page.   The planthopper pictured is Balclutha punctata and it was a notable find, along with Anoscopis albifrons – both remnant species of ancient meadows.
