To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
An eternity in an hour.
William Blake

In a world where the needs of an ever-growing population and the political will of the day dictate that huge swathes of our countryside are being developed, it is perhaps comforting to know that a small group of dedicated people in Suffolk have chosen to save for our generation, and all those to come, a small part of nature’s unspoilt beauty.

The mission of Suffolk Flora Preservation Trust is to purchase land to be “‘permanently preserved for the benefit of the public generally and especially the inhabitants of the county of Suffolk of lands of beauty or historical or ecological interest or scientific importance and in particular the natural flora of the county of Suffolk”

The Trustees are guided by the wishes of Francis Simpson, MBE, whose gift of his estate and his lifelong passion for the survival of habitats, allowed the formation of SFPT in 1982.

His gift is a gift to everyone who has ever seen ‘heaven in a wild flower’.
