Winter
17th Dec 2014 by jools
We had a wonderful time at the GreenerSax Winter Fair: it was a great day, with lots of visitors fundraising for some excellent causes – including SFPT! Fabulous baking & bacon rolls so we send many thanks to the hard working team at Greener Sax who do such a wonderful job.
Images from the latest visit to our Fromus Reserve can be seen in the Winter gallery.

Our first publication!
10th Dec 2014 by jools
We hope that Francis Simpson would be proud. We aren’t approaching the heights of his "Flora", but our very own Laurie Forsyth – author of our regular reports – has collated his words with images from Jools and other Guardians into a beautiful booklet looking back at 2014 — visit Our Publications page to read more about it.

A reminder of summer
12th Nov 2014 by jools
How lovely, now the nights are drawing in, to be reminded of summer with these glorious images (below) from our August Open Day by planthopper recorder Tricia Taylor (planthopper image courtesy Joe Botting). They show Colin Lucas with his sweepnet, suction device and pooter combing our Fromus meadows for planthoppers. Tricia and Colin found 13 species of mostly common hoppers and their full report can be found on the species lists page. The planthopper pictured is Balclutha punctata [OOPS! MISSING IMAGE!] and it was a notable find, along with Anoscopis albifrons – both remnant species of ancient meadows.

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness"
2nd Oct 2014 by jools
Well, September has been and gone, dryly. The SFPT calendar of open days has finished, the hay has been cut and baled and the hedgerow has been harvested for blackberries and golden bullace – although the sloes and rosehips are yet to reach their peak. Jars of chutney are maturing and last year’s sloe gin has been tasted – the verdict: we like them all!
Watermint and yarrow are the last blooms in the field as the maple leaves start to turn. The cattle are back for their autumn grazing – and they seem to like the hedgerow fruits more than the grass ...
SFPT volunteers are keeping busy, though. Catch us at the GreenerSax Winter Fair in December when you can buy the hedgerow produce, cards, calendars and prints; meet the Guardians and sign up, yourself.
