Shilling — a mother again! Shilling calved in winter housing last year, and has now given us another calf, this time a pretty heifer, sired by Drakkar — who has been lent to Jimmy’s Farm, where there is a small herd of three British White cows. You can see that Shilling has plenty of milk to nourish her lively daughter, as Shilling herself leans out to feed on fodder beet — an addition to a basic diet of hay (bought in), and haylage harvested in summer 2021 from Meremeade at Fromus reserve.

The Trust’s new bull, Horatio’s Harvey, born 2019, passport number UK 240788300126, has been collected by Phil Baskett. So that he gets to know his new family, he will be housed with them until they all go out together on the fresh growth at Fromus Valley Reserve. As you see, [1] he has good conformation; all is quiet in the big barn; and H.H. has learnt to reach for fodder beet to supplement his diet of hay and haylage. On Open Day at Fromus, 23rd April, all cattle will be moved to the far pasture (8770, New Close) but, if you bring apples or carrots, they will surely come to your call.
