On Saturday 19th March, Trustees and Hon Treasurer met at Orchid Glade, on a beautiful sunny morning, to start the process of collecting old tree-guards, relics of the 1996 mixed broadleaf tree-planting by our predecessor, now unsightly clutter in the encircling woodland.
Growing trees have burst out of some of these hard plastic tubes; others are still in place. Many have broken into pieces of different sizes and shapes, now scattered around. The task of removing this rubbish is challenging, but the result is rewarding: the first stretch of the East Ride is now clear and open for a woodland walk.
There will be more volunteer days in April. Please contact the Trust’s Secretary if you are able to lend a hand.
