As metal detection by individuals, or with their co-habitees, is now permitted, I've been at Fromus today to detect the soil removed from the ditch in Mere Meadow.
Well, not much to report. One minié bullet [read more here] and some medieval greyware (too coarse a fabric for Roman), shown above. There were also some lead scraps, and responses indicating more bullets — but too many to dig out.
There's a lot of thick clay drainpipe fragments near the crossing and even some brick. This may have been debris chucked in to stabilise mud there but who knows?
I need a hand auger next, although the only person in our group that has one is in his 80's and self-isolating at Chediston!
There was a cuckoo at the far end of Mere Meadow.
