Orchid Glade in mid-winter is worth a visit, for its quiet serenity. At the solstice 2020, the entrance is still carpeted with autumn’s fallen oak leaves. After parking, in this rainy year, you’ll need wellies to walk on, over this heavy, undrained Suffolk clay land. The new pool, excavated in 2019, has filled to the brim with rain-water; so, too, has the original pond, created in 1996. In the damp winter atmosphere, it’s not surprising that even the young oaks, in the open glade (planted in 1999) are hosts to complete cover of variegated lichens.
